Help plan your wedding date
Some considerations to selecting your date are timeline, significance, family schedule, time of year, budget, which all affect venue availability.
Since it may take a year to plan a wedding, many venues are already booked out. This is a consideration as you need to be very flexible. If you want to have your wedding be based on a significant date like proposal or first date, this may not be feasible because it is too soon or it is not on a weekend which will be limiting for family and friend's schedules. When you select the date, consult with your family members to ensure that there are no conflicts. You can plan a wedding on a shorter timeline, but know that you have to remain RIGHT on schedule (see below for a 6 month checklist)
Popular months are June then August and September. Popular days are February 14 (Valentines Day) and October 18 (sweet day). Birthdays, anniversaries and first time (you met, proposal, etc) are all great days to consider. Just remember, many brides are also considering these days as well. Days to avoid are religious holidays, days of sporting events (Super Bowl) and major holidays. You can understand that many of your friends and families may want to spend this time with their loved ones or already have plans scheduled.
Budgeting for your date is also a consideration. Friday, Saturday and Sunday luncheons are generally more cost effective than dinners on Saturday and Sunday. Many popular venues are booked in advanced so planning on a short time line is difficult and can be limiting. Many free (park/beach) venues are booked months to years in advanced, so keep that in mind.
Just know that in choosing your date, practice flexibility and confidence. This is one of the first major decisions that you and your partner will make and make it a good one that is good for you and your family.
Advice: select the date and a back up date for your venues.
